BLACKWhen
foes become friends, watch for those who are loyal. Ah, yes… words to
live by. However, Loyalty is just a sugar-coated need for power. What
is more powerful than owning someone’s will? I no longer desire ones
loyalty, my friends… only their respect. A once bitter rival now one
I consider more than just an acquaintance, for we both share that of
a common bond: Respect. A very lonely word in this day and age… very
hard to come across, what with all the arrogance flowing through the
veins of our newest generation. Fear is in the past, and everyone truly
believes they are superman… however, the kryptonite that is “The Sensation”
will not only gain the respect he deserves, but also kill any of these
‘super’ men along the way.
BLACKMetaphorically
speaking, of course. The changed me… is also a more respectful me. I
would not add insult to injury after defeating one who opposes me… but
instead, help up and shake the hand of the fallen person at my mercy.
Where do I go from here? Yet another winding road as I set off to challenge
Kevin Conner for a third win in the first round of the Last Man Standing
tournament. What are they expecting? A climax in my story? Do they anticipate
the arrival of the old Danny Starr as seen on every Last Man Standing
final held before? I do not blame anyone for these accusations other
than myself… they say the past repeats itself… but I will become living
proof what’s in the past… will stay in the past. Anyone expecting me
to have something up my sleeve is in for a big disappointment. I had
stayed in Texas to get a chance to learn Ryan Zimmerer as a person,
rather than the 7 foot monster standing across from me in the ring…
instead of a violent situation, we spent most of the week conversing
and conducting activities. I learned a lot from the man they call ‘Sett’
and I know he learned a lot from me: Croquet, Badminton, most importantly,
the finest of rare wine.
BLACKWe
traveled to the HWA arena together for my match against Dylan Wolfe…
Ryan and myself were gaining a bond like no other… scary. 3 Years ago
we seek each others death… now we sit together laughing over a deck
of cards, relaxing. It’s funny how some things work out… however, there
is a dark, unforgiving side of how things work out. Michael Diamond
was the prime example in that aspect of conclusions. We were both victims
of circumstance… taking each other to hell and back all for the humor
of one, Eric Rayne. While Michael lies in a hospital bed, bleeding to
a certain death… Eric is hiding in the shadows… I must have revenge
on the man who did this to my brother… but Ryan made it clear that revenge
was a shallow result of anger. He’s right. Leaving him crippled wouldn’t
be the perfect revenge… it wouldn’t solve anything. There is only one
thing that would ruin any chance of him winning from all of the plotting
he schemed. Before acting upon this rebuttal, I needed to speak with
someone… someone I never wanted to see again. Far worse than any Sett…
this man was unforgiving… a brutal, sure-for-hell demon set upon this
earth to cause suffering… and that’s it.
BLACKI
left Texas after Survival. I had successfully pinned Dylan Wolfe and
advanced to face Kevin Conner the upcoming week… with that in my mind,
I hopped upon my personal jet and made my way back to Hartford. Kevin
Conner… I feel like I grew up with the boy…
BLACK“Boy”,
Who am I kidding? He’s grown into a man… just goes to show how much
he’s evolved over the years I’ve known him. Once a dumb-witted new-comer…
to a dumb-witted legend. Haha…
BLACKI
respect Kevin Conner, perhaps I didn’t at first, but he’s most certainly
gained my respect, none-the-less. It took a few years but I see now,
Kevin Conner may be a little cocky… but he certainly wants everyone
to know he is in it for the long-run. I respect that. Of course I respect
that… this is a man who came from nothing to go against all odds just
to become a face for the HWA. I love rooting for the under-dogs, and
just like his career, he will become the under-dog once again as we
step into the ring one on one.
BLACKRespect
is a very important trait in this match… one that will remain between
both contenders no matter what the outcome. You see, true respect doesn’t
fade due to a loss… it just intensifies. Well, according to the circumstances,
that is. Two men with such history can easily map out each other’s every
move before the other can even attempt it… I expect a stale-mate in
my match with Kevin Conner; nothing more, nothing less. As much respect
as I have for Kevin Conner, that doesn’t change my heart about the lengths
I will go to obtain my crown as the Last Man Standing.
BLACKWhen
I arrived back to my house, Mark Crow parked in front allowing me to
make an easy escape to the front door. As he drove the BMW away to park
in its real spot, I looked to the side of my house and saw my beautiful
girl. My 300 C’s black paint glistening in the sunlight. I smiled knowing
she got home safely; I know how Jenn usually drives my vehicles and
was pleased to see my girl was doing just fine. As the smile faded from
my face, I turned to open my front door, but Jenn beat me to it, opening
it from the inside. Her mouth dropped seeing she almost broke my nose
with her nonchalant swing, and quickly rushed to my aid with an apologetic
hug. I hugged her as well, reaching up to touch my sore nose bridge.
Jenn Copelin: I missed you!!!
BLACKSuddenly
the pain from my nose seemed to have vanished as I broke from the tight
squeeze we shared with each other. I stared deep into her hazel eyes,
placing my hands through her hair.
Danny Starr: I missed you too, Baby…
Jenn Copelin: I’m glad to hear that…
Danny Starr: Why?
BLACKJenn
bit her bottom lip, looking up at me with guilt full eyes.
Danny Starr: …What did you do…?
Jenn Copelin: I didn’t do anything, but you might
want to have your car checked out.
Danny Starr: Damnit, Jenn…
Jenn Copelin: No, Seriously… It wasn’t me. You
might know what I’m talking about…
BLACKShe started
to walk passed me, instigating me to join her on her walk to my car.
It was then Mark Crow walked up from the drive way to join us on our
venture. Jenn opened the door and stuck the key in the ignition…
Danny Starr: What am I listening for?
Jenn Copelin: It’s like… a thumping. I can feel
it on my feet when its in motion…
Danny Starr: Oh, it’s been doing that. It’s nothing.
Mark Crow: Sounds like Axel.
Jenn Copelin: Maybe… here, get in and listen for
yourself…
Danny Starr: I already heard it, Jenn… It’s nothing,
just a little air in the tires is needed… that’s all.
Mark Crow: Mr. Starr, I used to do body work back
in Florida if you want me to listen myself…
BLACKI
am very picky about who drives my car…
Jenn Copelin: Oh, come on, Danny… it couldn’t
hurt.
Mark Crow: You can come too…
Danny Starr: Yeah, I know that much.
BLACKI finally
agreed to join Mark in his attempt to find out what was wrong with my
car. He was dressed in the black suit I bought for him, so I wasn’t
worried about pizza stains getting on the leather surface. Jenn slid
to the passenger seat, leaving me in the back of my own forty thousand
dollar car; and then some.
Mark Crow: What’s it sound like…
Jenn Copelin: It’s not so much a sound, more of
a grinding… it’s like driving on square tires.
Danny Starr: This is nonsense…
Mark Crow: Well, I’m not so sure, Danny… from
what she describes it as, you might have a problem with your CV Joints…
Danny Starr: That’s ridiculous…
Jenn Copelin: Every time I make a turn, it clicks…
Mark Crow: Yeah, definitely CV Joints… Well, let’s
take ‘er for a spin, anyway.
BLACKMark
presses the button on the side door descending the window so he can
stick his head out the side.
Danny Starr: I didn’t know you could do that…
BLACKJenn
looks back at me with one eye-brow raised as if saying ‘Are you kidding
me?’
Jenn Copelin: You’ve had this car, HOW long?
Danny Starr: 3 Months! Give me a break… I usually
just put the air on like any real intellectual would do.
Mark Crow: I would think an intellectual would
know what ‘Window Down’ means.
Danny Starr: What was that?
Mark Crow: Nothing, sir…
BLACKMark
changes the subject as he focuses on the clicking we all hear coming
from the right side of the window.
Mark Crow: Yup… It’s your CV Joints, Buddy.
Danny Starr: No big deal, right?
Mark Crow: You kidding me? If, no WHEN they snap…
if you’re going fast enough you’re dead. You need to get this fixed
like.. Right now.
Danny Starr: I’ve been driving like that for a
month now, this is ridiculous.
Mark Crow: Danny, for real… your tires will straight
fall off the axel and your front end will drop. You’ll probably flip
if you’re going about 40 miles per hour or more.
Danny Starr: Okay, fine… I’ll have it checked
out…
Jenn Copelin: I told you it wasn’t me!
Danny Starr: Yeah, right… It probably WAS you…
with all those sharp turns you take around every bend that comes along.
Mark Crow: Either way, you gotta get this fixed
like… NOW. That clicking means it can happen ANY time… could be today,
could be 4 months from now… but if you don’t get it fixed, it WILL happen.
Danny Starr: Okay, Okay… I heard you. Can we park
her, now? I need to make a phone call…
BLACKMark
parked the car in the exact same spot we started from. The 3 of us made
our way to the front door and stepped into the hall. Mark went to finish
chores he had, as I shut the door behind me. Jenn turned to me as if
she was going to say something, but I quickly grabbed her by the buttocks
and lifted her into the air, carrying her to the living room couch.
I put her down back first onto the black leather cushion as I laid on
top of her… looking into her eyes once again. I smiled as she did the
same… and we kissed. I reached my hand up through her dirty blond hair,
stroking it through as she placed her hand over the back of my head.
I used my other hand to direct her hand more towards my neck so she
didn’t ruin the flip I had going on in the front. Our kiss was interrupted
by a sudden burst of laughter coming from her mouth into mine.
Jenn Copelin: God forbid… You’re ‘precious’ hair…
BLACKShe continued
laughing as I smiled again…
Danny Starr: Never mind…
BLACKI grabbed
her hand and roughly forced her to mess up the form of my hair-do. I
smiled back down at her, releasing her hand.
Danny Starr: My ‘precious’ hair is hardly significant
when I have the most precious thing in the world right here in my arms…
BLACKJenn’s
laugher faded, soon there after, her smile faded as well… She looked
away from my eyes as I saw the water building up under her eye lids.
I lifted myself off of her just enough to gain position…
Danny Starr: Is there something wrong?
BLACKShe took
her hand and wiped away the tear that was forming on her eye lid before
it had the chance to drip on to her soft, tender cheek.
Danny Starr: Baby…
BLACKShe looked
up at me again… this time, the tears were unstoppable as they slowly
flowed down to her chin.
Jenn Copelin: I don’t ever want to lose you..
Danny Starr: You won’t, baby…
BLACKI went
to hug her, but she stopped me…
Jenn Copelin: I have before…
BLACKShe
did… It was true…
Danny Starr: Never again… I want to grow old together…
have children and name them after your favorite movie stars… I want
to give you the world… I already have the best thing in it…
Jenn Copelin: What? Your car?
BLACKThrough
all of this emotion, she actually pulled off a sarcastic remark.
Danny Starr: Yeah, but I have the second best
thing too…
Jenn Copelin: Your mansion?
Danny Starr: I’d give it all back just for you.
BLACKIt was
then my cellular phone interrupted the perfect moment… it was rested
on a coffee table directly in front of the couch we were cuddling on.
We both watch it vibrate in shock as we clearly saw the name on the
Caller ID. I wouldn’t have answered it if my life depended on it… The
last person in the world I’d want to speak with is on my phone right
now…
Jenn Copelin: You going to answer it?
Danny Starr: Let him suffer.
BLACKI pushed
silent on the side of my cell, and quickly rushed back to Jenn’s face
for another kiss. As I kissed her… it was inappropriate to be thinking
of what were trailing through my mind… but it was unavoidable. I had
to start thinking now… The man’s face appeared in my nightmares along
with Heather and my Father.. The very man who brought an epiphany to
my state of mind… it was that man who appeared in my own subconscious
to initiate a revelation of things to come… but why? Why would this
man help me, in dreams or not… but none-the-less, his words rang true
in reality… Perhaps it was a premonition… or perhaps this will be a
mistake I will die regretting. I would make the call tomorrow… and my
plan is to leave Hartford by plane an hour later.
BLACKSo
much on my mind, as of late… in the midst of all this drama… Jenn was
the calm in my storm… the only good thing I had going for me now. With
Eric Rayne trailing through my mind… his fate was sealed… As far as
Ryan, things were looking up… and I was proud to say Sett was a dear
friend of mine in the end… My stats are quite impressive so far in this
edition of the Last Man Standing tournament… 2 wins and no losses. However,
I am not one to count chickens before the eggs hatch… but Kevin Conner’s
presence at Survival will most likely be a wasted one. It’s nothing
personal… Kevin, but when it comes to being The Last Man Standing… I’m
the remaining man every time…
BLACKWith
all due respect, Mr. Conner… Saturday, you will be just another portrait
on the wall, in the hall of Sensation. 3/0? Now THAT’S Sensational!
